V40, Fault codes:321, 322

My local dealer says i need a new gear box. any help please? V40 auto 2000 w reg petrol. clunking when slowing down No gear selection. (had to switch off in neutral & switch back on) to clear transm/light. problem returned when trying reach top gear.Now cant reach top gear. Oh dear. thaks

not sure if this will help but maybe worth a try I used to have a ford scorpio auto that would not engage top/overdrive .i had box stripped by a "specialist!!" and it would still not engage top.someone suggested it could be the maf (mass air flow meter) this was changed and all was fine. other owners had similar problems and just cleaned the Mass air flow meter with carb cleaner and problems were resolved maybe worth trying a clean of maf first. dont know if im allowed to do this but try for instructions on maf cleaning I am afraid i have no idea where it is on a S40 .I am having a prob with my 2.0 auto at moment it has been diagnosed as having low voltage to TCM wherever that is.

General note, for any transmission work suggest transmission specalist rather than general delaer. The general delaers may typically just throw a new box on, great if you can afford it. Many auto box probs can be repaired although not always cheaply, but if you can remove and fit the transmaission yourself then its pretty cost effective... e.g the shift solenoids can be repiared / replaced, and this is way cheaper than a new box. Sorry to say it but in Oz and the US its generally cheaper anyway as there are so many auto's and hence more auto specialists hence lower prices....Europe loves its manuals.....(quite rightly so...IMO).
