D5 is sooooo quiet

It must be the new D5 engine (the 185bhp one) the 165 is quite noisy... I have a 55-plate 163bhp d5 ... i think i missed the 185 one by days! can sometimes sound like a tractor in the winter when cold too!

Diesels will always be a bit rougher in the morning starting from cold, especially if its in the minus temps! You should hear an old tech mid 80s - eary 90s diesel starting from -10c - what a din!

But once it warms up its quiet. I haven't heard a diesel yet that isn't rough when cold starting, but its the noise what can be heard from inside the car that counts. I still say its the quietest I have driven. You want to hear the old VAG diesel on skoda's, audi and volks. Sounds like 2 tractors coming along.

Yeah I suppose it is quiet. Initially I was very impressed with how quiet the D5 was once warmed up. But in comparison with the 185bhp engine, its noisy that was what i meant earlier. Theres still that clunking sound staionary but the main worry was on the motorways ... on there, you cant tell its a diesel suffice to say, I'm not embaressed having a diesel car because the noise isnt that bad compared to as people have mentioned older cars or even current other makes that really do sound bad.

Just wish I could afford one of those bmw's but what I like about bmw's is the rock hard seats. I am planning on getting the 185BHP next year around this time.
