RTAS RealVerb Devouring CPU

Hey all, I'm fairly new to ProTools so I've been experimenting. So far I've recorded 11 tracks of audio with various audiosuite plug-ins on some tracks. However, I can only use the RTAS RealVerb plug-in for no more than 2 tracks without getting some error message about CPU load. Why does this plug-in eat so much processing power? It doesn't seem reasonable to be limited to only 2 tracks. I've allocated the highest possible buffer sizes and CPU usage limit in Hardware Setups. I've also allocated plenty of memory to DAE. Is there something I'm missing? I wanted to eventually get the Waves plug-ins but not if I can only use a couple at a time. I thought I was running a more than adequate system (G4 733, 640 RAM). How much CPU power do I need? I'm also concerned about being limited in the same way if I want to automate tracks. Any sharing of input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Try putting the RealVerb on an Aux send, instead of using the same plug-in twice. Also, in the Setups>Hardware menu, up the CPU usage limit to 85%. p.s. Don't buy the Waves bundle unless you just want the wierd effects. The reverb, compressor and eq aren't that good...

i agree w/ the above..using a send should allow you to have it on ALL the trax if ya want w/ NO extra cpu usage..BUT I disaagree and say the waves bundle is some of the best i have and i have the digi stuff, the McDSP stuff, DUY,..it's some of the best unless i'm missing something great !!

In the PT Reference guide, check out pages 265 and 276 for step-by-step instructions on how to set up for aux send/bussing arrangements for a plug-in. It'll save you a ton of processor headroom IMHO, the Waves Gold Bundle is the cream of the RTAS plug-in's crop. The Renaissance Reverb and Renaissance Compressor alone are worth the price of the bundle.

I looked at pages 265 & 276 of the PT Reference Guide and found information on Bar/Beat markers & memory locations. Nothing I saw discussed bussing. Granted I think it is pretty straight forward, but I'm always open to learning something new. Kurt
